Why hire a Node.js developer through DigiWorks

Built for many requests at once

Node.js serves many connections at once without a separate thread for each. A skilled developer uses that for APIs, chat and live data that stay quick as traffic grows.

The same language as your front end

Your Node.js developer writes JavaScript or TypeScript, like your React, Vue or Angular team. They can share types with the front end and follow a bug from the browser to the server.

Vetted developers, your decision

Every developer we put forward has passed live code tests, a Git portfolio review and reference checks. You hold the interviews, set your own coding questions and make the final call.

We handle contracts and payments

DigiWorks takes care of the contract and the payments. You lead the work itself: the backlog, the code reviews and the release plan.

Open about pay

You know what your developer is paid and what DigiWorks keeps. Tell us the seniority and hours you have in mind and we will share pricing.

Node.js skills you can hire for

Node.js is a runtime that lets JavaScript run on a server. Most projects add a framework and a few tools on top. These are the ones to ask about when you hire Node.js programmers.

  • Express: a minimal, widely used Node.js web framework for routing, middleware and error handling.
  • NestJS: a structured TypeScript framework with modules and dependency injection, common in larger teams.
  • Fastify: a fast, low-overhead framework with schema-based validation of requests and responses.
  • TypeScript: types on top of JavaScript that catch mistakes before the code runs.
  • Async code and the event loop: promises, async/await, streams and worker threads, so one slow task does not hold up every request.
  • Databases: PostgreSQL or MySQL through Prisma, TypeORM or Knex, MongoDB through Mongoose, and Redis for caching.
  • Real-time: WebSockets and Socket.IO for chat, live updates and screens that several people use at once.
  • Testing: Jest, Vitest or the built-in Node.js test runner, plus Supertest for API endpoints.
  • Deployment: Docker, GitHub Actions, AWS Lambda or containers, with logging and monitoring such as Datadog or OpenTelemetry.

Need someone who also covers Go, Python or Java on the server? See our back-end developers.

Is a Node.js programmer the same as a Node.js developer?

Yes. Programmer and developer mean the same job here, and some people just say Node developer. The level matters more than the title. A junior builds endpoints from a clear plan, while a senior designs the whole service, picks the database and reviews other people's code. Tell us the level you need and we will look for it.

Can I hire Node.js developers in India?

Yes. If you want your developer to be in India, say so and we will put forward vetted Node.js developers there. You interview them and pick the person you want. The Indian working day overlaps well with the UK and Europe, and some developers there are open to later hours for US teams, so raise it in the interview. Other regions are an option too.

Should I hire a freelance Node.js developer or a dedicated one?

Node.js freelance work suits a small, fixed task, such as one integration or a quick fix. For a product you keep building, a dedicated developer tends to work out better. They learn your codebase and users, join your planning and stay to fix what they shipped, so you do not pay each new freelancer to learn the same system.

How we vet Node.js developers

Live code tests

Candidates solve coding problems in a live session before they reach you. It shows how they break a problem down, deal with errors and talk through their choices.

Git portfolio review

We read code they have shipped: how they lay out a Node.js project, keep routes apart from business logic, write tests and manage their dependencies.

Reference checks

We contact people who have worked with them about the quality of their work, how well they keep others informed and whether they follow through without close supervision.

How It Works

Optional Trial / Guarantee

Service Breakdown

You can bring Node.js skills into your team in a few ways. Here is when each one tends to work, and when Node.js itself is the right tool.

In-house hire

A Node.js engineer on your own payroll. Worth it when the back end is the core of your product for years to come, but local searches are slow and salary is only one part of the cost.

Freelancer

Good for a short job with a clear finish line, like one webhook integration. You screen people yourself, and they may be busy elsewhere when your next task comes up.

Development agency

An agency runs a full project with its own manager. You get less say over which engineers touch your code, and scope changes often mean new invoices.

Dedicated Node.js developer through DigiWorks

A remote engineer who works only on your product, in your repo, chat and sprints. We source and vet candidates, you run the interviews and choose, and DigiWorks handles contracts and payments.

When Node.js is a good fit

APIs for web and mobile apps, real-time chat and dashboards, webhooks, streaming, and services that spend most of their time waiting on databases or other APIs.

When another back end may suit you better

Heavy number crunching, data science and machine learning usually sit better in Python, Go or Java. Node.js can call those services, but long CPU-bound jobs should not run on its main thread.

Hi, We're Monica & Rolphy!

We founded DigiWorks after seeing how broken hiring and team building had become — slow, expensive, and limited by geography. Companies were either overpaying locally or struggling to manage remote talent effectively.

We built DigiWorks to fix that. By combining global talent access with structured systems for hiring, onboarding, and performance, we make it possible for companies to build high-performing teams anywhere in the world.

Most business owners waste enormous time and cash because they don’t know how to hire, manage, or scale remote teams, especially technical ones.

We believe this is a fundamental shift. The best companies won’t be defined by where they hire, but by how effectively they build and operate global teams — and DigiWorks sits at the centre of that change.

Meet The Talent

Transparent compensation

We help you hire and keep skilled node.js developers with clear role definitions, transparent compensation and pre-vetted global talent. With DigiWorks, you always know exactly what your hire earns and what goes to us.

Compensation for a node.js developer depends on seniority, skills and hours. Ask us for current rates.

How much does it cost to hire a Node.js developer?
It mostly depends on seniority, location and hours. As a US benchmark, the median annual wage for software developers was 135,980 US dollars in May 2025, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Remote hiring often costs less. Flexiple’s salary data for India, updated in August 2026, shows a median of about 7.2 lakh rupees a year for Node.js developers. We quote for the level and hours you want.
A Node.js developer builds the server side of an app in JavaScript or TypeScript. They write the APIs your website or mobile app calls, connect databases and outside services, handle sign-in and permissions, and run background jobs such as emails or file processing. Many also write tests, set up deployment and watch errors and speed once the code is live.
Strong JavaScript and TypeScript, a clear grasp of the event loop and async/await, and real project work with Express, NestJS or Fastify. They should know a SQL and a NoSQL database, test with Jest or a similar tool and understand basic API security. Clear writing matters too, because back-end choices affect the whole team.
Start with a short call about your product, your tech stack and the hours you want covered. We put forward pre-vetted Node.js developers who fit, you interview them and pick who to hire. DigiWorks then handles the contract and payments, and you lead the daily work.
Yes. DigiWorks developers are based in regions such as Latin America, Eastern Europe, India, South Africa and the Philippines. Say which hours must overlap with your team and we only put forward people who can work them. Latin America shares most of the US working day, while Eastern Europe and South Africa suit the UK and Europe.

How to hire a Node.js developer: what to check, what to ask and what it costs

If you are comparing Node.js developers for hire, it helps to know what good looks like before the first interview. Below are the skills to test, questions to ask, what moves the price and how to settle a new developer in. Working across several server languages? Also see our back-end developers and API developers.

What a Node.js developer works on

Node.js lets JavaScript run outside the browser, on a server. It uses V8, the JavaScript engine from Google Chrome, and an event loop that handles many requests at once instead of waiting for each one to finish. That makes it a strong choice for APIs, real-time features and services that talk to databases and other APIs all day.

It is also very widely used. In the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, Node.js was the most used web framework or technology, picked by 48.7 percent of everyone who answered. A big community means more packages, more answers to common problems and more people to hire from.

Skills to check

  • The event loop: what blocks it, and when to move heavy work to a worker thread or a queue.
  • Async code: promises, async/await and error handling that does not quietly swallow failures.
  • One framework in depth: Express, NestJS or Fastify, including middleware and request validation.
  • Data: SQL and NoSQL databases, migrations, indexes, and not firing dozens of queries for one request.
  • Security: input checks, safe password storage, rate limits and keeping secrets out of the repository.
  • Testing and releases: Jest or Vitest, API tests, CI pipelines and safe rollbacks.

Five interview questions

  1. What happens to other requests if one route runs a slow, CPU-heavy loop? How would you fix it?
  2. How would you design an API for orders, from the routes to the database tables?
  3. An endpoint became slow after a release. What do you check first?
  4. How do you deal with an outside API that times out or sends back errors?
  5. Tell me about a production incident you were part of. What did you change afterwards?

Listen for concrete detail. Strong candidates name the metrics and tools they used, admit what they would change, and ask about your traffic.

Sample job description

Short and specific works well. For example: “We are hiring a Node.js developer to build and run the API behind our web and mobile apps. You will design endpoints in NestJS with TypeScript, work with PostgreSQL and Redis, write tests with Jest and deploy through GitHub Actions to AWS. You will work with two front-end developers and our product lead. Must have: Node.js and TypeScript in production, REST API design and SQL. Nice to have: WebSockets, message queues and Docker.” For a fuller version, use our software engineer job description template.

What drives the cost

Seniority moves the price more than anything else. A developer who can design a service and guide others costs more than one who builds endpoints from a spec. Location matters too: pay in the US and Western Europe is higher than in Latin America, Eastern Europe, South Africa or India. After that come the hours you need and any specialist skills, such as real-time systems, payments or high-traffic work. With DigiWorks, you know what your developer is paid and what we keep.

Try a short paid task

Before you make an offer, ask your final candidate or two for a short piece of paid work that mirrors your own codebase. For a Node.js role, that could be adding an endpoint with validation and a test, or speeding up a slow query. Keep it to an afternoon at most. Then read the pull request for clear code, careful error handling and a short note on their choices. Paying for the time keeps it fair.

Freelance or dedicated

Freelance Node.js help is fine for a one-off job with a clear end, such as a single integration. If the back end will keep growing, a dedicated developer pays off. What they learn about your services, data and past incidents stays with your team.

Your first three months together

In week one, give access to the repository, the cloud account and the error tracker, and pick one small bug or endpoint to ship. Getting a change live early proves that your pipeline works. In month one, hand over one service or one part of the API, with its tests and alerts. By month three, your developer should plan work with you, review other people’s code and point out what slows the team down.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Hiring for a long list of npm packages instead of solid basics in async code and API design.
  • Running CPU-heavy work, such as image resizing or large reports, on the main thread.
  • Skipping tests and monitoring because the API seems to work on a laptop.
  • Running a Node.js version that no longer gets security fixes. Even-numbered releases become long-term support (LTS) versions, so plan upgrades around them.
