Why hire a web developer in India through DigiWorks

Used to overseas clients

Many Indian web developers have built and maintained sites for companies abroad, so English briefs, remote reviews and foreign customers are familiar ground.

Common stacks well covered

PHP and Laravel, WordPress, React, Node.js, Python and .NET developers are easy to find, so your shortlist can match the code you already have.

Budget for ongoing work

Developer pay in India sits well below US and UK levels, so a small company can keep one person on its site all year, not only for a launch.

Your code, your accounts

Work happens in your repository, hosting and domain accounts, so nothing is locked inside an agency or a freelancer’s login.

A clear monthly cost

We hold the agreement and pay the developer in India each month. Their pay and our fee are listed apart on your quote.

What to check before you hire a web developer in India

Skill looks the same in any country, but a few checks matter more when your developer works from India and you meet mostly on video.

  • Live work: sites or apps that are online now, with a clear note of what they built.
  • Git habits: small, clear commits and pull requests that others can review.
  • Your stack: real projects in the framework and CMS you use today.
  • Phone testing: pages checked on real phones and slow connections, not only a desktop browser.
  • Security basics: safe handling of logins, forms, file uploads and updates.
  • Written updates: short, clear notes a non-technical manager can follow.
  • Notice period: when they can start, if they are leaving a full-time job.
  • Shared hours: a record of keeping agreed hours with clients abroad.

Why do companies hire web developers in India?

Cost matters, but it is not the only reason. Many Indian developers have years of work on sites for clients abroad, common stacks such as PHP, WordPress and React are easy to staff, and a shared morning suits UK and European teams. The result depends on choosing the right person, which is why we test every candidate.

Can one developer in India handle both front end and back end?

Yes, a full-stack developer can, and that often works for small sites, stores and internal tools. For a large web app with heavy traffic or a complex interface, it is usually better to have separate front-end and back-end people, each going deep in their own area.

What should I give a new web developer in India on day one?

Access to the repository, a staging site, the hosting account with sensible limits and your task board, plus a short written brief and a first small ticket. Keep passwords in a shared manager. With that in place, a good developer can ship a first change within the first week.

How we screen web developers in India

A paid coding task

Candidates build a responsive page, an API endpoint or a bug fix close to your real work, share it in Git and explain it on a call.

Live sites checked

We open the sites and apps they list, ask which parts they built and look at speed, layout on phones and basic security.

References from past clients

We talk to former leads or overseas clients about keeping hours, quality of updates and how the developer handled a release that went wrong.

Service Breakdown

Companies use web developers in India in different ways. This is where each option fits, and where a dedicated developer makes sense.

A local hire at home

Easy to meet in person, but local salaries are high and a good developer can take months to find.

An Indian web agency

A fixed price for a defined build. Fine for one project, but the team on your account can change and the knowledge stays with them.

A marketplace freelancer

Quick for a small fix. Testing skill, paying in rupees and getting the same person back later are your job.

A dedicated web developer in India with DigiWorks

One developer who works only on your product, week after week. We source and test, you interview and choose, and we run contracts and pay.

When India suits you

Ongoing site and app work, UK and European teams that want a shared morning, and US teams comfortable with written updates and one daily call.

When another region may suit you better

If you need long live sessions across the whole US day, a developer in Latin America overlaps more. We can shortlist there as well.

Hi, We're Monica & Rolphy!

We founded DigiWorks after seeing how broken hiring and team building had become — slow, expensive, and limited by geography. Companies were either overpaying locally or struggling to manage remote talent effectively.

We built DigiWorks to fix that. By combining global talent access with structured systems for hiring, onboarding, and performance, we make it possible for companies to build high-performing teams anywhere in the world.

Most business owners waste enormous time and cash because they don’t know how to hire, manage, or scale remote teams, especially technical ones.

We believe this is a fundamental shift. The best companies won’t be defined by where they hire, but by how effectively they build and operate global teams — and DigiWorks sits at the centre of that change.

How much does it cost to hire a web developer in India?
It depends on experience, stack and hours. PayScale’s India data, updated on 22 August 2026 from 488 salary profiles, shows an average base pay of about 4.2 lakh rupees a year for web developers, with most between roughly 1.8 lakh and 10 lakh. Developers who design APIs or lead releases earn toward the top. Our quote shows their pay and our fee separately.
India runs on India Standard Time, UTC+5:30, with no clock change. UK and European teams share much of the morning with a normal Indian working day. US teams usually agree one short call early in the US morning and rely on written updates for the rest. We only shortlist developers who can keep the hours you agree.
An agency suits a one-off build with a fixed scope and no plans for later changes. If your site or app needs changes every week, a dedicated developer usually gives more, because they learn your code, work in your tools and report to you directly instead of to a project manager.
We start with a call about your product, stack and goals. You get a shortlist of web developers in India who passed our coding task and reference calls, and you interview the ones you like. After you choose, we sign the contract and pay them monthly, and they start in your repository and task board.
Some web developers have a good eye for layout and can work from a simple style guide, but design and development are different skills. For a new brand or a full redesign, it usually pays to have a designer create the screens first, then let the developer build them with care for speed and phones.

How to hire a web developer in India: a practical guide

India has a very large pool of web developers, and many of them already build and look after sites for companies in the US, UK, Europe and Australia. That makes it a natural place to look when you need someone to build a new site, keep an online store running or add features to a web app. The size of the market is also the challenge: profiles look alike, prices vary widely and it is hard to tell from a CV who can work on their own. This guide explains how to pick the right kind of developer, what to pay, how to test skills and how to make the shared hours work. For the role in other regions, see our main page to hire web developers.

Decide what kind of web work you need

“Web developer” covers several jobs, and naming yours first saves weeks of interviews.

  • Front-end work: pages and screens people see, built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, often in React, Vue or Angular, that load fast and work on phones.
  • Back-end work: the server side, such as APIs, databases, logins, payments and admin screens, in PHP, Node.js, Python or Java.
  • Full-stack work: one person who handles both sides, a good fit for small products and internal tools.
  • CMS and store work: WordPress, Shopify or Magento sites, themes, plugins and integrations for content and sales.
  • Upkeep: security updates, backups, bug fixes, hosting moves and small changes requested each week.

Write two or three sentences about the site, the stack and the first task, and share them with every candidate. The answers you get back tell you a lot.

Stacks you will find among Indian developers

PHP with Laravel or CodeIgniter, WordPress and JavaScript frameworks such as React and Node.js are all common, partly because many Indian agencies have served overseas clients on these stacks for years. Python with Django or Flask, and .NET for business systems, are easy to find too. If your project uses something less common, such as Elixir or a niche CMS, plan for a longer search or pick a strong developer in a related stack who is willing to learn it. Our page for PHP developers in India covers that stack in more depth.

What web developers in India earn

PayScale’s India data, last updated on 22 August 2026 from 488 salary profiles, puts the average base pay of a web developer at about 4.2 lakh rupees a year, with most people between roughly 1.8 lakh and 10 lakh. Pay rises with experience and with the stack: someone who edits WordPress themes sits near the low end, while a developer who designs APIs, works with cloud hosting and leads releases sits near the top. Through DigiWorks the developer’s pay and our fee appear as two separate lines, so you can compare the full cost with an agency or a local hire.

Agency, freelancer or a dedicated developer

Indian web agencies sell projects at a fixed price or by the hour. That works for a clear one-off build, but the people on your project can change and you rarely choose them. Freelance marketplaces are quick for a small fix; checking skill, handling payment in rupees and getting the same person back next month are left to you. A dedicated developer works only on your product, inside your repository and task board, and builds up knowledge of your code over time. That is the model DigiWorks offers: we find and test candidates, you interview and choose, and we take care of the contract and monthly pay in India.

How to test a web developer before you hire

A short, paid task tells you more than any quiz. Pick something close to the real job, such as building one responsive page from a design file, adding an endpoint to a small API or fixing a bug in a sample project. Ask the candidate to share the code in a Git repository and to write a short note on what they did and what they would improve. Then talk it through on a video call. Look for clean commits, sensible names, care with security basics such as input checks and passwords, and honest answers about what they did not finish.

Questions that separate strong candidates

  • Show me a site or app you worked on that is live now. Which parts did you build yourself?
  • How do you make a page load quickly on a slow phone connection?
  • Tell me about a time a release broke something. How did you find it and what changed afterwards?
  • How do you keep a WordPress or Laravel site safe between updates?
  • How do you write an update for a client who is not technical?

Making the time difference work

India uses India Standard Time, UTC+5:30, all year, with no clock change. A UK or European team shares much of its morning with a normal Indian working day, which suits daily check-ins and code reviews. For US teams the overlap is small, so most agree a short call early in the US morning and rely on written updates, tickets and recorded walkthroughs for the rest. Many Indian developers are used to shifting their hours for overseas clients; agree the shared hours in writing before the start date. Remember the main Indian public holidays, such as Diwali, when planning releases.

Setting up the first weeks

Give your new developer access to the repository, a staging site, the hosting or cloud account with the right limits, and the task board on day one. Start with a small, low-risk ticket so they learn how you review and release. Ask for a short written note at the end of each day or week, and hold a regular review of finished work. Keep passwords in a shared manager rather than in chat, and make sure all code, domains and accounts stay in your company’s name.

Contracts, notice periods and ownership

Developers with a full-time job in India often have to serve a notice period with their current employer before they can start, so ask about it early. Your contract should state that the code and designs made for you belong to your company, and that the developer keeps your data confidential. When you hire through DigiWorks, we hold the agreement with the developer, run payroll in India and handle local paperwork, while you direct the daily work.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing on hourly rate alone and skipping a real coding task.
  • Hiring a “full-stack” developer for a job that needs deep front-end or back-end skill.
  • Leaving hours and response times unspoken until the first missed deadline.
  • Letting the developer own the hosting account, domain or repository.
  • Giving no written brief, then judging the work against expectations nobody wrote down.
