Why hire a Django developer through DigiWorks

Batteries included, used well

Django ships with sign-in, an admin panel, forms, migrations and security protections. An experienced developer leans on them instead of rebuilding them, so features reach your users sooner.

One language for the web and your data

Your web app, data scripts and machine learning code can all live in Python. A Django developer can call that code directly and share it with your data team.

Screened before you meet them

Before a profile lands in your inbox, the developer has cleared a live coding session, a look through real code on Git and calls with people they worked with. The interview and the final yes stay with you.

Paperwork off your plate

We sort out the agreement and pay the developer each month. You decide what gets built, review the pull requests and set the priorities.

Rate and fee side by side

Nothing is hidden: you see the developer’s pay and our share as separate numbers. Tell us the seniority and weekly hours you have in mind and we will price it.

Django skills you can hire for

Django is a Python web framework first released in 2005. Around it sits a set of tools most projects use. These are the ones to ask about when you hire Django programmers.

  • Django ORM: models, querysets and migrations, plus the know-how to avoid slow pages caused by too many queries.
  • Django REST Framework: serializers, viewsets, permissions and throttling for APIs that front ends and apps call.
  • Django admin: a ready-made back office, customized with filters, actions and inline editing.
  • Celery: background and scheduled tasks on Redis or RabbitMQ, with retries and monitoring.
  • PostgreSQL: the usual database for Django, with indexes, full-text search and JSON fields.
  • Django Channels: WebSockets and other async protocols for chat and live updates.
  • Wagtail: a content management system built on Django, for marketing sites and blogs.
  • Testing: pytest-django, factories and Django's own test client, run in CI on every change.
  • Supported versions: Django 5.2 is a long-term support release with security fixes until April 2028, and 6.1 is the newest release.

Is a Django expert different from a Django developer?

Mostly it is the same job under another name. People search for a Django expert when they want someone senior, who can design the data model, untangle slow queries, upgrade an old project or review other people's code. If that is what you need, say so on our first call and we will only shortlist developers with that level of experience.

Should I hire a freelance Django developer?

For a short job with a clear finish, like adding one integration, a freelancer is fine. For an app you keep improving, a dedicated developer tends to cost less over time. They learn your models, your users and your deployment, so each new feature starts from what they already know instead of a fresh handover every few weeks.

Can you take over an old Django project?

Yes. Many teams come to us with an app on an old Django or Python version that nobody wants to touch. A good developer starts by adding tests around the risky parts, then upgrades one release at a time, fixing warnings as they go. Ask the candidates how they have handled upgrades before, and what broke.

How we screen Django developers

Live code tests

A live session where the candidate models data, writes a view and explains each choice out loud. Weak spots in Python or in Django's request cycle show up quickly here.

Git portfolio review

We open projects they have shipped and check how they split apps, write migrations, keep settings and secrets apart and cover the code with tests.

Reference checks

Former managers and teammates tell us how the developer handled deadlines, code reviews and production problems, and whether they would hire them again.

Service Breakdown

Django work can be covered in more than one way. These are the usual options, plus a note on when Django is the right framework in the first place.

In-house hire

A Django engineer on your own payroll makes sense when the web app is your business for the long run. Expect a long search and costs beyond salary, from equipment to benefits.

Freelancer

Handy for a contained piece of work, such as a reporting page or a payment integration. Screening falls on you, and the next task may land when they are booked elsewhere.

Development agency

An agency takes a full project end to end with its own project manager. You rarely choose the individual developers, and every change request reopens the budget.

Dedicated Django developer through DigiWorks

One remote developer focused on your codebase full time, in your Git, chat and stand-ups. We find and screen candidates, you hold the interviews and choose, and we take care of the agreement and monthly pay.

When Django is a good fit

Content sites, marketplaces, SaaS dashboards, booking systems and internal tools: apps with lots of data, users and admin work, where a mature framework saves months.

When something lighter may suit you

A tiny API with a handful of endpoints can be simpler in FastAPI or Flask, and a site with heavy real-time traffic may fit Node.js better. A good Django developer will tell you so.

Hi, We're Monica & Rolphy!

We founded DigiWorks after seeing how broken hiring and team building had become — slow, expensive, and limited by geography. Companies were either overpaying locally or struggling to manage remote talent effectively.

We built DigiWorks to fix that. By combining global talent access with structured systems for hiring, onboarding, and performance, we make it possible for companies to build high-performing teams anywhere in the world.

Most business owners waste enormous time and cash because they don’t know how to hire, manage, or scale remote teams, especially technical ones.

We believe this is a fundamental shift. The best companies won’t be defined by where they hire, but by how effectively they build and operate global teams — and DigiWorks sits at the centre of that change.

Meet The Talent

Transparent compensation

We help you hire and keep skilled django developers with clear role definitions, transparent compensation and pre-vetted global talent. With DigiWorks, you always know exactly what your hire earns and what goes to us.

Compensation for a django developer depends on seniority, skills and hours. Ask us for current rates.

How much does it cost to hire a Django developer?
Seniority, location and hours set the price. For a US reference point, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median annual wage of 135,980 US dollars for software developers in May 2025. Developers in Latin America, Eastern Europe, India or South Africa usually cost less. Share the level you need and we will give you a figure, with the developer’s pay and our fee shown separately.
A Django developer builds web applications in Python using the Django framework. Day to day, that means designing database models, writing views and APIs, setting up user accounts and permissions, customizing the admin and connecting outside services such as payments or email. Most also write tests, handle upgrades and help deploy and monitor the app once it is live.
Solid Python first, then a deep grasp of Django itself: the ORM and migrations, class-based and function views, forms, the admin and the settings that keep an app secure. For APIs, Django REST Framework. They should know PostgreSQL, write tests with pytest or Django’s test tools, and run background work with Celery. Clear written updates matter as much as the code.
It starts with a call where you tell us about the app, the team and the hours you need. We shortlist screened Django developers, you interview them with your own questions, and you pick one. From there we take care of the agreement and monthly pay, and the developer works inside your team.
They can. We have developers in Latin America, Eastern Europe, India, South Africa and the Philippines, and we only shortlist people who can cover the overlap you ask for. For US teams, Latin America is the closest match. For the UK and Europe, Eastern Europe and South Africa share most of the working day.

How to hire a Django developer: skills, interview questions and costs

Django has been around since 2005, so there are many developers who list it on their CV. Telling a capable one from someone who followed a tutorial takes a little preparation. Below you will find what to test, what to ask, what affects the price and how to get a new developer productive. If you also need APIs in other languages, see our back-end developers and API developers.

What a Django developer works on

Django is a Python framework for building web applications. It handles the plumbing every app needs: routing, database access, user accounts, forms and an admin area. That lets a developer spend their time on your actual product. Typical projects are SaaS products, marketplaces, booking and membership sites, internal dashboards, and the API behind a React or mobile front end.

Because Django is written in Python, it sits close to the tools data teams already use. A Django app can run reports with pandas, call a machine learning model or share code with your data scripts, all in the same language.

What to test

  • Data modeling: sensible models and relations, and migrations that will not lock a busy table.
  • Query sense: spotting the extra queries in a list page and fixing them with select_related, prefetch_related or annotations.
  • APIs: Django REST Framework serializers, permissions and versioning.
  • Security: CSRF protection, permission checks on every view, safe file uploads and settings kept out of the code.
  • Background work: Celery tasks that can safely run twice, with retries and timeouts.
  • Testing and deployment: pytest, factories, CI and a repeatable way to release.

Questions worth asking

  1. A list page is slow and the debug toolbar shows hundreds of queries. What do you do?
  2. How would you add a new required field to a table with millions of rows without downtime?
  3. When would you reach for a class-based view, and when for a plain function?
  4. How do you stop a user from seeing another customer’s records through the API?
  5. Describe a Django upgrade you led. What broke, and how did you find it?

Good answers come with specifics: query counts, the tools they used, a migration plan in steps. Be wary of answers that stay general or lean on “it depends” without saying what it depends on.

Example job post

Something this short is enough: “We are looking for a Django developer to grow the booking platform behind our website and mobile app. You will build features in Django and Django REST Framework, design PostgreSQL models, write Celery jobs for reminders and reports, and add tests with pytest. You will work with a front-end developer and our product owner. Must have: Django in production, DRF and PostgreSQL. Nice to have: Wagtail, Docker and AWS.” Our software engineer job description template has a longer version you can adapt.

What changes the price

The level of the developer moves the price most. Someone who can design the whole data model and lead an upgrade charges more than someone who adds pages to an existing app. Where they live comes second, with the US and Western Europe at the top of the range. Then come the hours you need and any specialist areas, such as payments, large data volumes or real-time features. At DigiWorks the developer’s pay and our fee are shown separately.

A paid trial task

For your last one or two candidates, set a short paid task drawn from your own app. For a Django role, that might be a small model with an admin screen and an API endpoint, plus tests. Keep it to half a day at most and give everyone the same brief. Read the pull request for clear models, sensible names and tests that check real behavior.

Freelance or dedicated

Freelance help works for an isolated fix or a small integration. When the app is central to your business and keeps changing, a dedicated developer is usually the better deal, because they keep the context of past decisions, data quirks and incidents.

The first three months

Week one: repository, staging server and error tracker access, a local setup that works, and one small ticket shipped. Month one: ownership of one app inside the project, with its tests and its part of the admin. Month three: your developer plans work with you, reviews pull requests and flags the parts of the codebase that need attention, such as an overdue upgrade.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Putting heavy work such as imports or PDF reports inside a web request instead of a background job.
  • Running with debug mode on or secrets committed to the repository.
  • Staying on a Django version that no longer gets security fixes.
  • Judging candidates on how many packages they know instead of how well they use the framework itself.
